Wonder what they said when I left?

Katie

Yes we are the family that has one missing shoe, toys with only 1/2 the pieces and socks without pairs.  Most of these problems are only noticed by our closets friends, family members and anyone who pays attention at preschool... until today.

It's raining.  No big deal, I thought, I'll grab an umbrella.  I know I have seen our black and white umbrella a million times in the past week and kept thinking I needed to put it back in the car and now when I need it, it's nowhere to be found  Okay, no problem, we have the giant black golf umbrella we bought for Halloween and never used.  It's taller than Wes, maybe even Andrew, and yet I still can't find it.

So now I have two choices.  I walk the block from my car to my office and get wet or I bring the Cars umbrella.  I sat in the car for a few minutes and debated.  I'm still the new kid at the office and only there a few times a week so people don't know me well, so would I look more foolish wet or with a ridiculous umbrella.  The answer is:

Oh.. and this is so small it really only covered my head,
but at least my hair wasn't wet.

Empty Hallway

Off of my living room I have a hallway to the bedrooms and bathroom.  I have no pictures hanging on the walls, no accent table with a vase or anything on it.  I don't even have a nightlight in the outlet to help light the way at night.  I always think I will do, add, hang something to give the hallway a little bit more character but I rationalize that I haven't found what I'm looking for.

And then, something happens to show me why I have nothing in that hallway.  When the weather is cold/rainy/crappy and the boys are bursting at the seams in the house and need an outlet that empty hallway comes in handy.  The most recent example is this...

I closed all the doors, gave them the giant red ball and let them kick, throw and have reckless abandonment with it.  They couldn't hurt anything and the ball was soft enough to not leave a mark on each other after kicking it at each others faces!

So my excuse to not decorate my hallway is a good one.  I don't want anything to get broken.  Maybe when they are teenagers I'll think about doing something with it......or not.

This is how he roles...

This kid cracks me up.  Colby simply insisted on sleeping in his underwear and bathrobe last night. He kept his matching slippers beside his bed so he could slip into them in the morning.  Who is he, Hugh Hefner?

Living large and in charge, that's my boy!

A Tale of Two Weekends

While I was on an Easter egg hunt with the boys...

My husband was across the nation with this being the view from his hotel room..

Ah, the tale of two weekends.  Tom was in California celebrating at the wedding of some very good friends of ours and I was home with the boys celebrating spring in the Upper Valley.  He is tan and I have a blister on my hand from doing yard work.  Looks like a day at the spa is in my future!

Taco Night

Who doesn't love taco night.  For some reason we had not had a taco night in a long time and we needed something great for dinner.  After dropping Lincoln off at school and sending Colby off to Katie R.'s house I headed over to the grocery store.  You would think not having the kids with me would make grocery shopping relaxing and easy but without them, and not having to be on top of things, I let my mind wander and forgot sour cream and bought cabbage and not lettuce.  Yes, I was a total moron.  I had to pick those up later at another grocery store.  Luckily, we have 5 grocery stores within 10 miles of us (no other stores of any use but 5 freaking grocery stores).

As I set the table and laid out all the fixings Tom called to let us know he was on his way home. Things were coming together nicely and then I heard a bang and a cry out from Colby.  I rush over to him and blood is coming out of his mouth.  He had tripped in the hall and slammed is face/chin on the floor and made a huge gouge in his mouth.  Once I got the bleeding under control Tom walked in.  I had him take a look and we decided to call the doctors to get their opinion on if we should bring him in to have it looked at.  Tom talked to the nurse and she said she would call back.  I told Colby he didn't have to eat dinner or I would make whatever he wanted but once he saw the taco stuff all laid out he said he wanted to try to eat it.  His lip was so swollen and looked very painful but he managed to put down 3 tacos and rice without missing a beat.  When the nurse called back she laughed at the fact he didn't pass up taco night.  With instructions to keep it as clean as possible we thanked her and finished up dinner.

I plan to have another taco night again soon.  I only hope that is less eventful than the last.

Shoveling Snow

As we've all complained about this has been a long winter.  The snow has lingered forever. Just yesterday was the first time in months that we had no snow on our roof! Needless to say the ground coverage is still vast and deep.  So I decided to take matters into my own hands...

Flashback to my youth and walking home from school with my neighbor Chad.  We would turn up our street and see my Pepere (grandfather) in my front yard with the shovel.  Chad and I would laugh and shake our heads.  He would shovel the snow from my parents yard into the road to melt.  At the time it seemed a bit embarrassing, wouldn't the snow just melt on its own? Everyday he would come over and shovel a bit more of the snow, usually focusing on the piles from the snowplow and snow blower.  It always seems silly to me and I would have never thought anyone would really need to do it.

Oh yeah, I did it.  And I laughed and thought of my Pepere the entire time. By the end of the day the driveway was dry again and I found the side of my driveway and some solar lights that got covered with snow! And will I do it again on the next sunny day so I can get the boys and I outside in the yard? You bet I will!
