The Zoo

Katie D.
Read in your best Australian accent

Watch as the mighty three year old weaves in and out of the furniture.  His speed rivals that of a jungle cat.  His eyes continue to dart throughout the crowd, seeking out the weakest link. He distracts those who understand his motives with smiles and puppy dog eyes. See as he approaches his prey, he circles around the table, mumbles inaudible sounds and pounces.  He’s elbow deep in the chips left out on the table.

The family laughs, satisfied that they have captured the moment on video and film.  Colby is thrilled by the attention and the fact that no one has stopped him from eating said chips.  The family has fallen into the trap of watching the boys like they are animals at the zoo.

Things I Never thought I would Say

"No Andrew we don't put pretzels in our toes"

About Katie D.

My adventure starts in Maine. As a true Maniac, I was born and raised in southern Maine; proud of dropping my “r’s” and using wicked as an adjective as much as possible.  While living in fabulous Portland Maine I received my degree in Communication from the University of Southern Maine in 2001.  My husband, Tom and I met on a wild trip to Montreal.  We survived the long distance relationship and were married in 2005 while he lived in Montreal and I in Burlington Vermont. We finally got to live with each other in 2007 when we relocated to the world that is known as the Upper Valley.  Since then I have put my career in retail on hold to raise my incredible boys, Colby 3 and Lincoln 1.

I enjoy cooking, crafting and a good cocktail. Translation, I love to eat, make a mess and enjoy a good beer. The kegerator in my dining room was not a dream of mine but Tom makes a mean homebrew so a girl can’t complain. I drive a big tan van. I’m proud of it! People who knock it have yet to enjoy its full potential! I have one cat, Isis Kitty, the other female in the house and the biggest bed hog I’ve ever known. I run with a fabulous group of friends and they are the lifeline that keeps me sane on a regular basis.

About Katie R.

My journey from a carefree college student at Ohio State to a married wife and mother in the Upper Valley includes living in 3 states, 8 towns, and 10 apartments.   During my gypsy adventures, I have made amazing friends and met my husband Joe.  Joe and I met in a bar and dated long-distance for 2 years before we moved to New England and lived together for another 4 before finally getting married.   It really is every girl’s storybook romance.

In my previous life I was an event planner/fundraiser in Boston.  Now I am a stay-at-home mom who doesn’t like to clean, cook, do crafts or any housewife related activity.  I do however adore my two little monsters, Andrew who is 2 ½ and Wes who is 5 months.

In my mind I am fashion forward, have it all together and am the envy of all my friends.  In reality I wear sweat pants 99% of the time, never leave the house without forgetting something and I am pretty sure my friends think I am a neurotic mess.  To keep my sanity as a stay-at-home mom I rely on my family, friends, Ohio State football and of course a few beers now and then.
